FAQs

  • Are in-person visits required, or can my care be managed virtually?

Kansas state law requires an in-person visit with one of our providers before treatments can be prescribed or administered. Annual in person follow-up visits at one of our clinics are strongly recommended. Virtual visits are also available after the initial in-person visit.

  • Can I do labs before my appointment?

No. Riordan Clinic labs are very specialized and must be done through our Bio-Center Laboratory. A provider visit is required before labs are ordered so that our providers can determine what data they need to fully assess you and your condition.

  • What can I do to get an appointment sooner?

Our providers are highly qualified, and there is a high demand for their expertise. In certain situations, we do maintain a cancellation list. All of your initial paperwork must be submitted in order to be placed on a cancellation list.

  • How soon after my initial virtual consultation can I schedule an in-person visit for treatments?

This fluctuates depending on your schedule and provider availability.

  • Will I only be able to access treatments at one of your clinics?

An in-person appointment is required for the initial visit. During this visit, we will determine your therapeutic dosing and monitor you for tolerance. Following the initial visit you may meet either in-person or virtually with your provider and orders for some treatments can be provided so that you can access treatments where you live (based on availability).

  • How much time do I have to schedule my in-person appointment after my initial virtual provider visit?

It is patient-specific and depends on your individual situation and whether you have any significant health changes occur since the time of your initial consultation. If you experience significant changes in your condition between the time of your initial consultation and your onsite visit, please contact us to determine if a re-assessment is warranted.

  • How long should I continue my treatments?

This varies significantly from patient to patient. As a general rule of thumb, you should plan to continue treatments for a minimum of three months. Patient care plans are routinely updated, vary significantly, and are adjusted as patients continue through their healing journey. Even when patients reach no evidence of disease status, they still have care plans created to prevent recurrence and optimize overall health.

  • Will the treatments your providers recommend interact with any other medications or chemo?

It varies depending on a patient’s situation and medication.

  • How frequently will I need to repeat labs?

Initially every 2-3 months certain labs will be repeated to track progress and health status. Ongoing the frequency will vary depending on your progress and health condition.

  • What are the success rates Riordan Clinic providers have in treating cancer?

Conventional oncology treats the cancer. Integrative oncology goes beyond that to treat the whole person who has cancer. Success rates vary depending on the type of cancer, stage of the cancer, and factors unique to the patient. Riordan Clinic providers have achieved amazing results with advanced cancers and related side effects often associated with conventional treatments.

  • Are Riordan Clinic treatments and traditional oncology treatments compatible?

Yes, Conventional oncology treats cancer. Integrative oncology goes beyond to treat the patient that has cancer – whole person cancer care. Integrative oncology creates the foundation for customized care plans to achieve better outcomes, fewer side effects, a better quality of life, and hope. Our providers will perform a complete assessment of your existing treatment plan and create an individualized integrative care plan for you that is compatible with your conventional treatments.

  • Are treatments covered by insurance or Medicare?

In some cases. The Riordan Clinic does not file claims with private insurance companies. Patients are provided the necessary information to file their own claims with a private carrier. Reimbursement rates can vary widely and the Riordan Clinic does not have control over those rates. Our onsite, Bio-Center Laboratory does file claims on behalf of traditional Medicare patients.

(Insurance company contract obligations can be restrictive. Opting out of insurance contracting affords Riordan Clinic providers the flexibility to customize care plans solely on the basis of achieving the best outcomes for the patients.)

  • What are my payment options?

We accept cash, personal checks, money orders, Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover. We can also help facilitate payments from friends or family members. We do not currently offer scholarships or other financial assistance.

  • Can I use my HAS/FSA card? (Should be HSA?)

Yes, usually. Rarely an HSA or FSA is declined, but it does happen. (If you would like to check if your HSA card will work with our billing system, please give us a call and we can run a “test” payment that will be reimbursed to your card.)

  • Are there any other resources to help me regarding payment options?

There is a service called “Advance Care” that allows you to apply for credit that can be used for medical expenses at any of our Riordan Clinic locations. Although the Riordan Clinic does not manage this program, we have worked closely with their team to make sure the program is a viable option for co-learners. At this time, there are several options for financing that include an interest free repayment period (currently, approximately fourteen months).
