Free T3 (FT3)
Two hormones are produced by the thyroid gland, T4 and T3. T3 is the more active hormone and controls most of the body’s metabolism. When the thyroid is underactive (low T3), the body functions slow down. Some of the symptoms a person could experience are weight gain, skin and hair becoming dry, fluid accumulating in the body, eyebrows thin along the edges, intolerance to cold, and fatigue. Hyperthyroidism (high T3) can be just as damaging. Symptoms of an overactive thyroid (high T3) include difficulty gaining weight, nervousness, fast pulse rate, easy flush, and intolerance to high temperatures.
