Speaker: Austin Powers, aka “The Ostomy Guy”
Please join us for a special lecture and book signing with Austin Powers, The Ostomy Guy. Austin was born and raised in Wichita, Kansas. He was diagnosed with severe Crohn’s and Colitis at a young age. He has written a book entitled, “The Ostomy Guy Story: Memoirs of a Bagman,” which documents his experience living with a chronic disease. His account of his experience will help find the humor and hope in otherwise difficult times and let those who have a chronic disease know that they are not alone.
About the Speaker:
Austin, well known and highly respected host of The Ostomy Guy Podcast, was diagnosed with Crohn’s and colitis when he was just 10 years old, after finding a fistula near his rectum. Ongoing butt surgeries and endless personal symptoms caused Austin to naturally suppress and hide his illness from everyone. He points directly at this “double life,” as he calls it, for the reason so many young people with chronic illness suffer from major depression and anxiety.
He was stricken severely in his early 20’s by a several year Crohn’s flare and multiple surgeries that led ultimately to a colostomy. The last thing any bachelor would ever ask for is a colostomy bag. Austin hated this disability. It led him to a rock bottom that both broke him and was the instrument of his healing and recovery.
Until now, no one has addressed this issue at its source like Austin does. He takes you through his struggle to accept his illness and disability. You’ll be brought into his broken world and see the anxiety that plagues us all in different ways. Unafraid to expose the real issues, Austin vividly paints picture after picture, so that you can see through his eyes and feel with his heart. The wisdom Austin obtained from his clear discernment and self-reflection, delivers gems of knowledge that all of us can apply to our lives.
